For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (Hebrews 8:10 ESV)
For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more." (Hebrews 8:12 ESV)
How great is our God? We are a broken people who often struggle with sin daily, but he has made these promises to us that provide us with his forgiveness and mercy and remembers our sins no more. He is our God and we are his people.
And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
ReplyDeleteand each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
(Hebrews 8:11 ESV)
I love that we will all know him. I'm not entirely sure if this verse refers to a day that is coming or a day that is already here. Personally I think that this day is on the way; a day when we will all know God. I know that his Spirit has already written his commands on our hearts (if that's not a conscience then I don't know what is), but I don't think that we all know God. Romans 1:20 says that no men have an excuse for not knowing God, but at the same time we are still called to make disciples of all nations which would suggest that not all men know Him. I think that God has done his part to make himself known to us and write his law on our hearts, but the end goal of having all men know him has yet to be achieved. He has given us a purpose. He has given us good works set out in advance for us to do. He is good!
I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Hebrews 8:10
ReplyDeleteIt never ceases to amaze me how much God desires our affections. Not in a needy or negative way, but in a wholesome way because He deserves it. God does not let us go on our own, or let things happen by chance. He doesn't wait for us to earn the right to be in His presence. Jesus came not for the healthy, but for the sick. I find it simply incredible that God seeks us even when we are at our worst. A perfect creator desires a relationship with His fallen creation. There is so much hope in the thought of God seeking out the ones who need salvation. I found this passage very uplifting because of the hope that it holds for the future.
God is good! As the old covenant wore away so came the new covenant, sealed by the blood of Christ. He desires for us to know him so much. and He made it so we can have a personal relationship with Him. How incredible will it be when we finally get to meet Him and get to see Him in all of His glory? In the instances where He reveals Himself in the Bible, even in a "small" amount, His power just blows everything away. The best part is that through this new covenant, we can know Him right now, and experience the full power of His love!
ReplyDelete"The main point of what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle that the Lord, not man, set up." Hebrews 8:1-2
ReplyDeleteJesus has ascended into heaven and taken his place at God's right hand. As a high priest, he presides over the heavenly sanctuary that God established. All around the world we have sanctuaries and tabernacles, but they are a reflection of the true sanctuary and tabernacle that we have waiting for us in heaven. God has given us these earthly sanctuaries so that we may be able to catch a glimpse of what is to come when we spend eternity worshiping and loving our Lord, Jesus Christ.
It will not be like the covenant
ReplyDeleteI made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them,
declares the Lord.
they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.
In a day to come, all will know and love God. In the past, God says he turned away from Israel because they were wicked, and did not follow his commands. But the Lord declares with the new covenant that all of our sins are forgiven, and the day will come when we all know and love God for it.
