You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 22:37-40 ESV)

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. (John 15:12 ESV)

Psalm 3

Verses 3 and 4 are definitely ones that I'm feeling and hit the nail right on the head from me now, but I just need to take them to heard and rely on him. I must say that this has been a very encouraging verse that I've needed to hear these last couple days because I've been pretty run down by he has blessed me greatly and continues to renew my spirit with his word. What a blessing!

  1. Deliverance. This is what I often cry out for in times of trouble; deliverance from my work load, from a person I am not on good terms with, from a negative thought or habit that is a thorn in my side. I like verse 5: "I wake again, because the Lord sustains me." How do we know that we will wake up after sleep? There is no guarantee; the Lord has control of that, too. I think about that sometimes, but we trust Him to regulate and guide our lives. Each day is a gift, each breath is a blessing, each moment of joy is a touch from the Divine. If we can take the time to appreciate the little things (whether we are hounded by mortal peril or just in the day to day) that come from God, I think we will come to a greater awareness of His Presence in and around our lives.
Verse 8: From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.

  2. I love the dichotomies found in the Psalms. In verse 1, David is honest with God about a very real fear of the many people who are coming after him. Then by the last verse, I hear no trace of trepidation left in his voice. These are very real struggles through which God carries David.

I cannot help but think that the two steps share a strong correlation. Only once David has been open and honest with God does his relief come. It's not like God needs to be reminded of our situation, or told what we need. There is just something more supernaturally awesome about letting something into God's hands and admitting it is out of our control. This action helps us keep our perspective and better appreciate God's amazing sovereignty. David was a man after God's own heart, and he always starts by submitting himself to God. There is no better example we could want to follow.

  3. What an amazing passage. No matter how great the challenge is, God will rise above all, and David clearly knows it. He is able to take whatever fear is holding him back and whisk it away with the shield of God. I think this applies well to our daily lives. Although not as great as the thousands of foes David had, we have many troubles in our lives, and God can always carry us through them. How blessed are we to serve such an amazing God!

  4. "How many say of me, 'God will not save that one.'
But you, Lord, are a shield around me; my glory, you keep my head high."
    Psalm 3:3-4

The Lord protects those who are faithful to him. We have nothing to fear, except God himself, creator of all things.

It is so easy to judge others based on their actions when in reality, we can only judge the actions and never the person. There is no way for me to know the true depths of somebody's heart based on observation. We need to not be the many saying "God will not save that one," because he will. He will save everyone who accepts that Jesus Christ showed the ultimate definition of love and everyone who chooses to accept the responsibilities laid before them in faith.

The Lord God is armor to protect us when we feel judged, persecuted, abandoned. He will not leave the side of those who love him.
