You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 22:37-40 ESV)

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. (John 15:12 ESV)

Psalm 6

3 comments:

  1. "All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment." Psalm 6:10

    "In a moment." That last phrase really sticks out to me. David is obviously in some very tough times. Incredibly tough. But he still has full faith that God will not let him down. It really challenges me to ask myself if I trust God that much. David is in a dark place, and there is no sign of it ending soon. Yet he seems to have full confidence that the end has already been decided, and there is no reason to doubt his victory has already been won. This is pretty astounding faith.

    We have the fortune of living after the victory has been won. Christ has already triumphed on the cross, so we can know that we rest in an already secured victory. What then should keep us from having faith like David? I realize that is a bold question to ask, but why should we not aim for the highest goal?

  2. Turn, O LORD, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise?
    (Psalm 6:4-5 ESV)

    Great juxtapose of life and death in these two verses. In accepting God's steadfast love we achieve life, but in the death that sin has caused God is absent. It's crazy to think of a place where an omnipresent and omnipotent God cannot be reached, but for those who choose Hell over Heaven will get what they ask for.

    In this dark hour for David, he acknowledges his stress and grief but he makes it known to his enemies that his God exists and will come to his aid. I myself have never been in a similar situation, but it did make me wonder as to how I would react. Will my enemies turn back in shame, or will I do the turning back in defending the truth. Scary, but it got me thinking.

  3. "Have pity on me, Lord, for I am weak;
    heal me, Lord, for my bones are trembling."
    Psalm 6:3

    "Away from me, all who do evil!
    The Lord has heard my weeping."
    Psalm 6:9

    The Lord hears our weeping. He hears our pleading in all of our prayers. Even when we are tired and crying ourselves to sleep, he is there. He is there for us when our enemies grind us down. The important part is that we turn to God and acknowledge that he is there and that he is in control. By understanding that he is the one who has the power over the strong and the weak, we can truly worship our God and King and he will take up our plea.
