You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 22:37-40 ESV)

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. (John 15:12 ESV)

Psalm 7

Hey guys,

I figured we could do a little transition with some Psalms again, and it might be a better for those of you on spring break this week that still want to keep up.

  1. You can clearly see the dark times that David is in from this passage. It sounds as though the "evildoers" are all around him, and close to overtaking him. Even so, David has the ultimate trust in God, depending on him to be his shield and strike down evil. If only in our everyday lives we could have the faith of David! All too often I worry and get stressed out by the simplest things, unable to let God fully take the wheel. David faces much worse circumstances and still wholeheartedly trusts in the Lord. Whst sn example to follow.

  2. "My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day."
    Psalm 7:10-11

This Psalm is equal parts promise and threat. David is fully confident that God will save him from his troubles. He has no doubt that God looks after those who pursue Him constantly. However, he is equally as confident that God will ever so severely judge those who sin against Him. Just as we know that God is love, we also know that He is perfectly righteous, and that "the wages of sin is death." This is a bitter reminder of reality. Those who do not find salvation in Christ face incredible wrath. Yet it also provides great hope. Those who do find salvation in Christ can know that God will always be there for them. God is faithful to His people, and will surely grant them victory over death.

  3. "Lord my God, if I am at fault in this,
if there is guilt on my hands,
Then let my enemy pursue and overtake me,
trample my life to the ground,
and leave me dishonored in the dust."
    Psalm 7:4, 6

In the psalm, the author first makes sure that if he is at fault, he should die before his enemies. This kind of humility is something that we should all strive for. We are not always right. We should constantly pray for God's wisdom when discerning decisions and know that even if we don't necessarily agree with everything that God says is true, we should be humble enough to know that God is always right because God is everything and God is truth.
